Message from the Executive Director
Throughout its history, International House at UC Berkeley has been a place that brings diverse people together, helping them bridge their differences, and not separating them in artificial or derogatory ways. We believe strongly in removing barriers between our residents, visitors, and guests and building a world of greater understanding.
I-House will continue to pursue its mission of fostering intercultural respect and understanding, lifelong friendships and leadership skills for the promotion of a more tolerant and peaceful world in the most vigorous way possible. This mission is even more important now than ever as the international debate and dialogue about cultural and economic differences will continue to be carried forward at all levels of government and society. Miranda Loos, Business Development Specialist for CIL
In my role as Business Development Specialist for the Robertson Center for Intercultural Leadership (CIL), I’m thrilled to lead the goal of expanding our reach to a wider community, one that surpasses the Berkeley borders. CIL facilitates a deeper level of understanding of cultural differences, equipping our residents, Berkeley staff, and students with intercultural leadership skills—skills that they can take with them throughout their lives and careers.

There are Many Facets to I-House Berkeley
Dear I-House Alumni, Friends, and Residents,

As you will see by reading this I-House Connection, there are indeed many facets to the I-House experience here in Berkeley. From dining to programming to special events such as our upcoming Global Homecoming on October 2nd, there are many ways to plug into the vibe of this special place. We invite you to consider these various ways of staying involved with the I-House mission of fostering intercultural respect and understanding, lifelong friendships and leadership skills for the promotion of a more tolerant and peaceful world.
Our motto is, “Come, join us!” We take this statement of invitation very seriously and we hope that you do too. I-House realizes its mission best by involving many of our stakeholders in our undertakings. That means, of course, that the place comes alive when you show up! We hope that you will continue to do so on a regular basis!
Sincerely,

We at International House are proud of the work of chef Jordan Lichman and his team, who demonstrate our mission through our dining operations. On any given day, they feed up to 1,000 residents, staff and UC Berkeley students. This is not an easy feat, but with our recently remodeled dining facilities, they have been successful in providing more than just satisfying meals for our diverse community.
We are happy to share a presentation by three UC Berkeley Journalism students who recently interviewed I-House Chef Jordan Lichman. The following presentation was developed for a class project and was not publicly distributed. We thank Nicole Henriksson, Jessica Han, and Cindy Ho for allowing us to share their project to our I-House residents, alumni and friends. (See below for student bios)

International House at UC Berkeley has been a multicultural residence hall for international students for nearly eighty-six years. By giving students a chance to interact with others from a huge range of backgrounds, I-House hopes to create lasting bonds founded on respect and understanding between its residents. Executive chef Jordan Lichman is proud to help I-House continue its mission by bringing people together with delicious and authentic multicultural cuisine.
