Recipes from the I-House Melting Pot

Dear residents and friends.

It’s time for food lovers to see another beautiful side of International House culture: recipes from residents from around the world.  I am excited to present the second chapter of the International House Cookbook! This chapter is composed of recipes from Thailand, Ethiopia, Singapore, Tunisia, Madagascar, and Reunion Island. Food is culture and these recipes represent the cultures that these residents came from. So sit back, get your apron on, and enjoy the amazing cultures of Asia and Africa portrayed as images and narratives of food.

I wouldn’t be able to pull this off without the help of our I-House community. So, I would like to say a big thank you to Chef Abbie for her generous foreword to this chapter, and also to Azza Chairannisa, Fall 2021 Social Media Ambassador, for pioneering the International House Cookbook series with Chapter One. I also extend my gratitude to the I-House Communications Manager, Laurie, for her advice and encouragement in drafting and organizing this cookbook. I thank Kanyawee, Yordanos, Chen, Wassim, Prisca, and Mary, the residents who submitted recipes. You guys are awesome!

Salamat, ขอบคุณ, አመሰግናለሁ, Terima Kasih, Yaishek, Misaotra anao, Merci, Imeela, Thank you.

Bon Appétit, my friends! In no time, we’ll be working on the third chapter. Stay tuned. Stay safe. And stay well.

Sincerely,

Oke Iroegbu
I-House Social Media Ambassador

P.S. Did you know that there are two dining options at International House that are open to the public? Share a meal with residents in the 2nd floor Dining Commons, or come to edmonds’ Café for bagels, pastry, espresso drinks, snacks and light fare. They also serve beer & wine for those with valid ID 21+. See hours and more info at: https://ihouse.berkeley.edu/dining-i-house
